60th Annual Shrimp Festival- Lions Club Host Island Charity Events
shrimp festival 2018, fort myers beachFort Myers Beach is divided by seasons: The end of Easter through Thanksgiving is off-season, when islanders reclaim the beach. Visitation rises from Thanksgiving until the mini-peak of Christmas Week. It tapers down a bit until mid-February, then shoots up for Spring Break through early April. And the peak of peak season occurs the 2nd weekend in March, with the Annual Shrimp Festival! The Fort Myers Beach Lions Club sponsors this traditional charity event, this year celebrating its 60th edition, on Saturday & Sunday, March 10 & 11. The world famous Fort Myers Beach Shrimp Festival raises tens of thousands of dollars for Lions Club charities, such as local eye surgeries, student scholarships, Florida Lions Eye Bank, Southeast Guide Dogs, large print books for the Fort Myers Beach Public Library, Little League and youth soccer and Beach Elementary and Cypress Lake High School students. The first Shrimp Festival was in 1959, in conjunction with the Blessing of the Shrimp Fleet, to give the beach community its own unique celebration, separate from the Edison Festival. Festivities actually begin one week earlier, on Saturday, March 3, with the Kids Shrimp Run fat 8 a.m. The Kids Run is on Fort Myers Beach, with entry at the Gulf Beach Road Access, across from TOPPS Supermarket. The free race is for children in grades K through 5, with each grade having their own competition, and awards for the top 3 finishers of each gender, with every runner receiving a t-shirt.  FULL STORY

New Options to Counter Beach Traffic and Parking
Anyone who has ever visited Fort Myers Beach in-season knows that the search for a parking space can put a dent in your trip to Paradise, and if you locate one, you’ll pay dearly for the privilege! Lee Tran, however, offers two options to help transport you conveniently and inexpensively around the island. LeeTran opened the Beach Park & Ride in mid-December 2017 in South Fort Myers at 11101 Summerlin Square Drive, near Summerlin and Pine Ridge Roads. Beach trolleys from there to the beach operate daily with the exception of major holidays from roughly 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and in season until 10 p.m. The station is at a prime location, where seasonal traffic to Fort Myers Beach often backs up, enabling it to entice visitors to take the trolley as a legitimate option.  FULL STORY
