LIFE ON FORT MYERS BEACH

LIFE ON FORT MYERS BEACH

Corps to Reduce Flows from Lake Okeechobee
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District will reduce the amount of water flowing from Lake Okeechobee beginning last weekend. Starting Friday (March 4), the new target flow for the Caloosahatchee Estuary is 4,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) as measured at Moore Haven Lock (S-77) located in the southwest part of the lake. The new target flow for the St. Lucie Estuary is 1,800 cfs as measured at St. Lucie Lock (S-80) near Stuart. Additional runoff from rain in the St. Lucie basin could occasionally result in flows that exceed targets. READ MORE HERE

58th Annual Fort Myers Beach Lions Shrimp FestivalThe 58th Annual Fort Myers Beach Lions Shrimp Festival arrives on our shores the weekend of March 12th and 13th – and is sure to be the best one yet! The Fort Myers Beach Lions Club continues two events they introduced last year – a 5K Shrimp Run just before the parade on Saturday morning, March 12th and a Shrimp Eating Championship on Sunday afternoon March 13th! Plus this year, they are bringing back a long time favorite – the Kids Shrimp Run on the beach! That’s in addition to all the traditional fun of Shrimp Festival!
