One More Public Hearing for Matanzas CPD Amendment
A controversial Commercial Planned Development (CPD) Amendment for Matanzas Resort renovations was pushed back to yet another hearing Monday night, when Town Council could not agree on what usage should be allowed on a small patio area that owner Doug Sperin-Smith wants to expand into part of the restaurant. Council also formally approved a Grand Opening date for the Mound House of November 14th. -READ MORE

into Estero Bay through winding mangrove mazes,

IT'S BACK TO SCHOOL ON FORT MYERS BEACH
 
School will be back in session in Lee County on Monday, August 24th. For some children, it will be their first foray into a classroom. For others, it will be their first year in a new school. For everyone, students, parents, teachers and staff, the first day of school is full of expectation and excitement. The Island is OPEN Promoting A Positive Message
As work continues on the Town’s waterline replacement project, local business owners’ remain skittish. This has prompted some local businesses and the Greater Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce to increase their efforts to help businesses promote the message that Fort Myers Beach is open and advise them on how to assuage customers who may get frustrated with the traffic. SUMMER WADING TRIP WITH ESTERO BAY AQUATIC PRESERVE
9-11am, Estero Bay. Participants
will wade into mudflats and seagrass beds at low tide to
discover many of the plants and animals that call the
estuary home. Dip nets and seine nets will be provided.
Discover firsthand why estuaries are known as the
‘cradles of the ocean’. Free but registration is required.

STARTING TODAY
Estero Boulevard Waterline Replacement Begins Monday
 
Construction will break ground on Estero Boulevard this morning for the Town’s Waterline Replacement Project, after crews complete preparations this week. Last weekend’s rain deluge caused delays in construction projects all over Lee County, Estero Boulevard being no exception – plans to mill the asphalt on Estero were pushed back from Wednesday to Thursday to allow for the weather. Meanwhile, the Greater Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce has been busy stockpiling water and ice, which they will have available beginning on Monday for businesses and residents who find themselves faced with a boil water notice.
