Ostego Bay Foundation Offers Fascinating Weekly Program
Working Waterfront Tour
The Fort Myers Beach area is nationally known for its pristine white beaches, breathtaking sunsets and beautiful natural attributes, and historically one commercial enterprise –the shrimping industry – particularly pink shrimp known far & wide as “Pink Gold!” To experience this shrimping lifestyle and industry firsthand, attend the Working Waterfront Tour by the Ostego Bay Foundation Marine Science Center Wednesdays in season from 9 a.m. to Noon. The 3-hour program begins at the Marine Science Center for check-in, before we proceed across the street to the Bonita Bill’s Community Room for a brief orientation with Joanne Semmer and Dan Eaton, the Foundation’s President and Volunteer Coordinator respectively, where we watch a short film on shrimping. We then make the short drive in our own vehicles to the Beach Seafood parking lot on Main Street for the 90-minute working waterfront tour. Following this, we drive back to the Marine Science Center for an hour-long guided tour, including the Touch Tank exhibit.  FULL STORY

LPA Approves Dock Rules
A light agenda for the Local Planning Agency meeting this week included a discussion about resolutions regarding seawalls and docks and the approval of LPA enabling language. Last year Town Council asked each of the Town’s Advisory Committees to review and update the enabling ordinances that authorize each committee. At the beginning of the meeting, TPI-FMB consultant John Gucciardo spoke to the LPA, saying that the LPA should see the TPI-FMB application at their February meeting. The final application is in the hands of Town staff and they are preparing a staff report on the application. Community Development Director Jason Green agreed that it would be ready for the February meeting. Jane Plummer asked if LPA members could have the staff report 2 weeks prior to the meeting so they had time to review it and Green said he would arrange that. Green served as LPA staff liaison following the resignation of Principal Planner Matt Noble late last month.  FULL STORY
