Island Offers Multiple Free Activities
Fort Myers Beach is a lot of things to a lot of people, full-time
home, seasonal residence, annual getaway paradise, day trip location,
once in a lifetime dream vacation destination. No matter which camp you
fall into, however, to go to our fabulous restaurants and bars and
tourist attractions, you generally need a wallet full of cash or credit,
but there are several fun activities you can do here that are
absolutely free, if you can walk to the location or scrape up a few
bucks for parking! Looking for free fun New Year’s Eve festivities? Head to Times Square, beginning with the Town of Fort Myers Beach’s 22nd
Birthday Celebration with its annual Birthday Cupcakes distribution
from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until they are gone, with a photo booth and
dunk tank. The complimentary Cupcake giveaway is a yearly tradition that
dates back to the Town’s 1995 founding. The
Times Square Merchant & Event Association rocks the plaza with live
music all day long, with “Remedy” jamming from Noon to 5 p.m., then
“High Tide” from 7 p.m. through the New Year. Street entertainers
perform for tips, so try to give them something. At Midnight, the Town hosts its traditional Beach Ball Drop to ring
in 2018. Immediately following this is a fireworks extravaganza off the

Island museum located at 161 Bay Rd, FMB, at the entrance to Matanzas Pass Preserve, houses a collection of artifacts, photos and memorabilia of life on Estero Island. Free. Open WE and SA 10am-Noon.

MOUND HOUSE
Experience Florida’s natural and cultural history where Estero Island’s oldest standing structure sits atop an ancient Calusa Indian Mound. The Mound House is a unique archaeological and historical site on Fort Myers Beach located directly on Estero Bay and offers a variety of programs for local residents, visitors and school groups. The William H. Case House is now open - come see this historic treasure and check out the museum store! Grounds open sunrise to sunset at no charge.
