Fire Board Adds Protection to Stations
FMB CERT to Disband
During their workshop meeting on Tuesday morning, the Board of Commissioners of the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District approved the purchase of two additional vehicle exhaust systems for Stations 32 and 33 and the release of emergency funds to meet district costs related to Hurricane Irma. Fire Chief Matt Love requested the release of funds to cover the district’s hurricane response. The district will apply for reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), but payment is not expected to be made quickly. The board approved the request unanimously.  FULL STORY

Council Divided on Several Issues
Split Decisions
The Town Council of Fort Myers Beach met on Monday, October 2, producing several divided votes. Vice Mayor Tracey Gore called the meeting to order at 9:04 a.m., with Mayor Dennis Boback joining at 9:15 a.m. Under the 1st Reading and Public Hearing for the Prohibition of Medical Marijuana Dispensaries in the Town, Council took the unusual step to forward the Ordinance to a 2nd Reading & Hearing on December 4, while sending it to the Local Planning Agency (LPA) for their review on Tuesday, November 14. The final vote was 3 to 1, as Mayor Boback had not yet present at the meeting. Council member Bruce Butcher, who seemed hesitant to support the measure in earlier discussions, voted No.  FULL STORY

Held daily Oct 13-29, the Lakes Park Halloween and Fall Festival features fun rides, games, pumpkins, food and the famous and spooky Halloween Express Train Ride that runs through Halloween Village. 5-7pm, Chapel by the Sea Presbyterian Church. Chapel resumes its Spaghetti Dinners on the 2nd Saturday of each month. All are invited.
