Town Drops Fireworks: No Funding for New Year’s Eve or July 4th Shows

Buried in the newly adopted Town of Fort Myers Beach 2016-2017 budget is bad news for the thousands of residents and visitors who enjoy fireworks shows on New Year’s Eve and the 4^th of July. The Town has not budgeted any funds for either fireworks show after agreeing to partner with the business community to keep the event going a year ago. Director of Administrative Services for the Town, Maureen Rischitelli, confirmed Thursday that there is no money set aside for fireworks for either New Year’s Eve or the 4^th of July. READ MORE

Little Estero Island Critical Wildlife Area

The southern end of Estero Island is home to a protected beach habitat that features a vast array of shorebirds unlike any other place. Known as The Little Estero Island Critical Wildlife Area, the 50-acre site extends north to just short of the Wyndham Garden several miles to the north. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) establishes Critical Wildlife Areas (CWA) under the Florida Administration Code to protect with landowner support important wildlife concentrations from human disturbance during crucial life cycle periods such as nesting and migration. There are currently 20 across Florida, with the State considering other CWAs for Fort Myers Beach.  READ MORE

Estero Boulevard Improvements
 

 

 

This week, reFRESH Estero Boulevard crews are scheduled to perform the following activities on Estero Boulevard. The active work zone is from Lani Kai/Avenue C to Lovers Lane. Motorists should expect travel lanes to be shifted on Estero Boulevard from Lani Kai south to Lovers Lane. (The NORTHBOUND LANE is closed from Avenue C to Miramar Street. The SOUTHBOUND lane is closed from Chapel Street to Lovers Lane. The CENTER lane is closed from Palm Avenue to Chapel Street.)
