Council Approves Shrimp Festival and
Nervous Nellies’ St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

 
At their meeting on Monday morning, the Town Council of Fort Myers Beach approved Nervous Nellies’ request for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration and agreed to send a letter to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) asking for a riparian rights setback waiver for the planned ‘Olde Seaport’ development. During Public Comment, Joan Murano, an island resident, voiced her concerns about ‘comfort stations’ on beach accesses something on the agenda for the afternoon workshop.

SHRIMP FEST RETURNS

 

The 57th Annual Fort Myers Beach Lions Shrimp Festival will
take over the beach on March 14th and 15th – sure to the
best one yet! The Fort Myers Beach Lions Club is introducing
two new events this year – a 5K Shrimp Run just before the
parade on Saturday morning, March 14th and a Shrimp Eating
Championship on Sunday afternoon March 15th!

LAKES PARK WALKING TOUR WITH BIRD PATROL
8:30-10:30am. This easy walk along clear paths offers an
opportunity to see birds in native vegetation with experienced Bird
Patrol guides pointing out the many species in Lakes Park, a
Lee County birding hot spot and crucial nesting area for many
birds. Free with paid parking.
Meet at Shelter A-7. Please wear comfortable shoes and

VISIONS OF THE PAST
9am-1pm, Matanzas Pass Preserve. Visit the inhabitants
of Estero Island during bygone eras. Listen to stories - including
facts and folklore - of the Calusa Indians, Spanish explorers,
pirates of the 1800’s, early homesteaders, island pioneers
and the Koreshans. Guided tours leave every 20 minutes, last
one at 12:20pm. Reservations strongly encouraged as space is
