Halloween on Fort Myers Beach

Halloween is Coming!
Aaarg, matey, the pirates may have left our emerald shores but that doesn’t mean the October fun is over! Halloween is a time-honored tradition on Fort Myers Beach - with parties and events spanning three weekends. Maybe it’s the tropical breezes, or maybe it’s just the fact that living on an island makes folks want to act like kids again, but our little community goes all out for All Hallows Eve - and the Island Sand Paper has all the information on where to go to fully express your inner ghoul.  To read more: http://www.islandsandpaper.com/issue715.aspx

Halloween Parties on October 31

For those readers who have grown up but still love Halloween, don’t fret. Even if

trick or treating is no longer an option, there are places on the island that are synonymous with Halloween. Dress up in style and get ready to party as the Cottage, Nervous Nellie’s and Big Game are hosting events in honor of what is - to many of us - the best holiday of the season.

On Friday, October 31st, the Cottage will hold it’s 27th Annual Halloween Bash with ghoulish drink and dinner specials and their popular costume contest! Winners are announced at midnight with cash and gift certificate prizes for 1st and 2nd place individual and group winners.

The fun will continue the next day, November 1st, at the Cottage’s Fright Night
Aftermath with even more prizes and Halloween festivities.

Down the road at Nervous Nellie’s, Halloween night will also be rocking with
a huge event called ‘Nervous Nellie’s Super Bash’. Billed as Lee County’s Largest Halloween Party, make sure you bust out your best costume, as there will be over $1,000 in prizes for multiple costume categories. The Super Bash will also feature multi-radio live remote broad casts, from Gator Country and 96 K-rock. Live music from Lizzy True and the Liars will keep the crowd rocking.

Another party and costume contest will be held Halloween Night on the other
side of the bridge at Big Game Waterfront Grill at Salty Sam’s Marina

Pirate Museum Coming to Beach
The Pirate flair that fills Fort Myers Beach this weekend during the Pirate Festival will begin to fade on Monday, but those with a love of all things related to the Sweet Trade need not fret, for soon Fort Myers Beach will have its very own Pirate Museum! We met with Nervous Nellie’s owner Rob DeGennaro and Pirate Museum Project Manager John 'Jack' Moga this week, and they told us the idea has been a long time coming for a community with so colorful a pirate history. "The museum will be set up underneath the Snug Harbor building, which is about 1700 square feet of space,” Moga, who met DeGennaro through a business associate earlier this year, told us. "The museum will focus on pirates of the Colonial era that patrolled the east coast of the United States and the Caribbean.” To read more: http://www.islandsandpaper.com/teaser2.aspx

The Lee County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) made a presentation last week on the results of a stakeholder's meeting held at Town Hall on May 30thconcerning improvements to San Carlos Boulevard and Estero Boulevard from Crescent Street to and including the Matanzas Pass Bridge. The presentation is but one part of the San Carlos Boulevard Project Development and Engineering (PD&E) Study being conducted by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) with the ultimate goal being improvements to our seasonal traffic tie-ups and San Carlos Boulevard itself - all the way up to the Gladiolus intersection.  Read more here: http://www.islandsandpaper.com/mpo.aspx
