Council Workshop Discusses Budget, Craft Beer Festival

At their workshop on Monday morning, the Town Council looked at a preliminary budget for the coming year and discussed the possibility of having a Craft Beer Festival at Bay Oaks to generate income for their teen and youth programs.  As Council ran through the list of all the budget items, Mandel questioned a $20,000 increase in the Town’s contract with Central Parking and voiced a concern about the Town’s legal expenses. Town Officials To Decide On Lightning Detection

Less than one month after a lightning storm fatality occurred along the beachfront on Estero Island, a Town of Fort Myers Beach advisory board continued ongoing discussions about the viability of a lightning warning system to protect residents and visitors from future incidents.  The Town Public Safety Committee is assembling information to be used as a presentation during a proposed Sept. 15 joint workshop with the FMB Town Council. The committee, which has listened to three different proposals for lightning protection, hopes the presentation will happen at the second Council workshop in September.  To read more: http://www.fort-myers-beach-observer.com/page/content.detail/id/525822/Town-officials-to-decide-on-lightning-detection.html?nav=5051

What Are Some Of The Best Options For Your Landscaping When Selling Your Home

Potential home buyers form their first impression of a home from its curb appeal. Yet often a home's outdoor landscaping is overlooked, or underdone, in the preparation for the sales process. An attractive and well-maintained landscape can add as much as 10 percent to the value of your home.  Ideally the time to get started cleaning up your yard is about a month before you plan on showing your house. That should give you enough time to get everything looking just right and not leave the impression that you simply waited until the last minute to put things in order. Follow these tips for sprucing up your yard to help your home sell quickly.  To read more: http://www.hgtv.com/landscaping/landscaping-tips-that-can-help-sell-your-home/index.html

Should Beachfronts Have Lightning Detection?

A healthy debate surrounding the necessity versus inessential need for lightning monitoring systems on beachfronts will be topics of discussion in the near future for local government agencies. The matter has arisen in light of the recent lightning fatality and injuries on Fort Myers Beach.  During Tuesday's Lee County Board of County Commissioners meeting, Commissioner Larry Kiker received approval from the board to act as a liaison among county officials to look into the feasibility of placing lightning alert systems at county beachfront parks. He hopes to coordinate that activity with other local government representatives and staff members who have knowledge on the subject.

Investment Group Buys longtime Beach Lounge

A long-standing establishment within Times Square in the heart of Fort Myers Beach served its last "world famous rum runner" under former ownership recently.  Top O'Mast Lounge closed its doors prior to last weekend after Persaud Property FL Investments, LLC purchased the property at 1028 Estero Blvd. from longtime owner Steve Strauss Thursday. The bar and one-time restaurant under the previous name was reportedly open for more than 40 years and sold within 24 hours of its listing.
