Town of Fort Myers Beach Acknowledges
Need for Bike Lanes
If you have ever rode your bike on Estero Boulevard you know that traffic on that County road can be  dangerous, especially with the Beach's narrow segments known as the Core area and Civic Complex sections. A planned Saturday bicycle ride with Town officials and other outside groups confirmed that fact. Due to only 50 feet of right-of-way on those segments and an uneven terrain, the bicyclists faced issues such as narrow passageways, bumpy situations, vehicle egress and ingress off of side streets and some traffic worries like vehicles getting too close as they passed by.

Fort Myers Beach Library Goes Digital

Get out your e-Readers and start downloading free books. With the rise in popularity of the Nook from Barnes & Noble and Amazon’s Kindle, more libraries are investing in these e-Reader technologies and expanding their catalogs with e-Books. The Fort Myers Beach Library is no exception. 73 titles are now available from the library’s e-Book catalog. Just like hard-copy books, e-Books are loaned out for a period of 14 days and can be returned early. If you keep an e-Book for 14 days, it will simply expire and you won’t have to do anything, but you can only check out two at a time. If you want to return an e-Book once you’ve finished it, it is very easy to do. For example, patrons using the Kindle actually download books to their Amazon account and can manage their account online. Those with an iTunes account, can download the Overdrive application to help with downloads and returns. Anyone with technical questions can direct them to the library, 239-765-8162.

Fort Myers Beach Property Values Jump Higher

Overall property valuations on Fort Myers Beach are actually higher than initially expected now that a second tax roll has been issued. Lee County Property Appraiser Ken Wilkinson recently announced the increase for the Beach now stands at 2.22 percent after a report on a second set of valuation numbers was sent June 28. The values provide figures upon which the county, its various municipalities and taxing district base their budgetary revenue numbers. The first preliminary estimate of total taxable valuation in late May for the Beach was reported to be an increase of 0.74 percent. The values have risen from $3.022 billion (final 2012) to $3.081 billion (2013).
